J. Fernando Arevalo, MD, PhD, FACS: Dr. Arevalo, who is the Edmund & Virginia Ball Professor of Ophthalmology, was an Invited International Speaker for the XII ACOREV International Retina & Vitreous Congress in March 2025. He gave “The Fernando Arevalo” ACOREV Lecture 2025 and was the inaugural lecturer of this award that bears his name. In addition to the lecture, Dr. Arevalo also gave 4 scientific talks, discussed all the retina fellows’ papers and awarded the best 3 prizes at the national level in Colombia. Dr. Arevalo also gave “The Claes H. Dohlman Lecture 2025” at Harvard University’s Mass Eye & Ear.

Ta Chen Peter Chang, MD: Dr. Chang was awarded tenure at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, effective June 1, 2025, and named the holder of the Kolokotrones Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology, effective March 1, 2025.

Reza Dana, MD, MSc, MPH: Dr. Dana was given the following awards: The Richard Lindstrom Award from the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, The Joseph Markoff PhD MD Endowed Lecturer from Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, The Thomas H. Pettit Lecture from the UCLA Stein and Doheny Eye Institutes Annual Meeting, and The Plenary Lecture from the French Ophthalmological Society.

Thomas W. Gardner, MD, MS: Dr. Gardner received the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from the Eberly College of Science at Penn State University.

David Huang, MD, PhD: Dr. Huang was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame on May 8, 2025.

Mark W. Johnson, MD: Dr. Johnson received the J Donald M Gass Medal from the Macula Society at the Macula Society Annual Meeting in February 2025.

Jennifer I. Lim, MD: Dr. Lim received the 2025 J. Donald Gass MD Beacon of Sight Award from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology at the Masters in Ophthalmology Meeting in Orlando on June 7, 2025, and was a Keynote Lecturer.

Peter A. Netland, MD, PhD: Dr. Netland is currently serving as President of the Chandler Grant Glaucoma Society.

Hugh R. Taylor, AC, MD, FRANZCO: Dr. Taylor received the AAO Laureate Award during the Academy meeting in Orlando. He also has just published his autobiography, "Opening Eyes, a Preventer of Blindness," which is available online.

M. Edward Wilson, Jr., MD: Dr. Wilson was awarded the rare designation of Distinguished University Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. This is a lifetime title awarded to senior faculty members who have sustained distinguished careers marked by outstanding teaching, research, and service achievements

Tien Yin Wong, MD, PhD: Dr. Wong has been elected to as Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), the UK’s national academy of sciences, and the world’s oldest and most esteemed scientific academy in continuous existence for his contribution to "medicine and ophthalmology". Fellows join the ranks of renowned scientists such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Stephen Hawking. 

Terri L. Young, MD, MBA, FARVO, FAOS: Dr. Young serves as the current President for The Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology and is President Elect for The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
